Welcome to issue 69 of Apex Magazine!

This is a good month to be a reader of genre fiction. We have original fiction by Damien Angelica Walters (“Requiem, for Solo Cello”), Mary E. Lowd (“Foreknowledge”), Susan Jane Bigelow (“The Best Little Cleaning Robot in All of Faerie”), Rhoads Brazos (“Inhale”), and Lisa L. Hannett (“Heirloom Pieces”).

For our subscriber and eBook readers, we have an exclusive reprint of “The Topaz Marquise” by the wonderful Fran Wilde.

Brian Keene is a world–renowned dark fantasy and horror author, most recently earning the title of WHC Grand Master (alongside authors such as Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, Richard Matheson, Clive Barker, and Anne Rice). For better or for worse, Brian’s seminal zombie novel The Rising paved the way for the resurgence of the undead that has taken over a large part of pop culture. He’s long been a stalwart supporter of author rights and has worked tirelessly on behalf of the genre community. It is an honor to have his short story “A Revolution of One” and a two chapter excerpt of his new novel The Lost Level (Apex Publications, 2015) in this issue of Apex Magazine.

Finally, I would be remiss without welcoming our new Reprints Editor to the team: Charlotte Ashley! You might recognize Charlotte from her well–received short fiction review series Clavis Aurea.

We at Apex hope you enjoy the issue!
