About the Artist

Rubén Castro is a self-taught freelance illustrator from Chile, who specializes in the fantasy genre. After graduating from school, Rubén pursued a career as an electrical engineer, but found himself dissatisfied. He had always loved to draw, but never saw it as a way of making a living because something he enjoyed so much could not count as “work.” While he attended university, he began uploading some of his art to the internet as a way to escape from daily routine and found a group of artists called the Crimson Daggers. It was then that he realized that an artist didn’t need to be born with a special gift, but could reach a professional level of skill through hard work, even without a formal education in art. The group members shared their creative process, and Rubén learned and began to think of art more seriously, and even take on freelance projects. After his father underwent a serious health complication, Rubén decided that life is too short to waste time on a career that left him unhappy. He dropped out of his engineering program and started to work full time at the career he loved most: art. Rubén’s work has been featured in role playing game books, card games, on book covers, and other projects.
