Become a patron to Apex Magazine

Yesterday we created an account over at Patreon.

Patreon_LogoWhat is Patreon?

Patreon describes themselves in this manner:

Founded in May 2013 and based in San Francisco, California, Patreon was created to enable fans to support and engage with the artists and creators they love. Empowering a new generation of creators, Patreon is bringing patronage back to the 21st century.

You can read more on the About page here and their FAQ page here.

Why Patreon?

Apex Magazine currently pays its writers the SFWA and HWA professional rate of 5 cents a word. We also pay our editor-in-chief and managing editor, our nonfiction writers, our artists, and for the reprints we purchase. We do so via the sales of subscriptions, single issue copies, and advertising. But we wish to grow. We want to pay our writers, editors, and artists better rates. But to do so, we need a steady source of income.

We want to bring additional content to YOU, the readers.

Patreon provides our supporters an additional opportunity to help us meet our goals. If you’re not a subscriber, Patreon provides a low-risk manner of showing your support.

The Goals!

Our first milestone goal is $300 via Patreon. If we make that number, Apex Magazine will be able to bring a fourth original story to our readers!

There are greater, grander milestones in place, but let’s shoot for the first target and go from there.
