Attacked by Advertising

You might have noticed… but our site has been attacked by advertising. Right now, Pepsi really wants you to check them out.

Okay, to be upfront about these matters, we weren’t attacked by anything. In fact, we’re trying out something new offered by WordPress (our site host) called WordAds. As far as I can tell, they’re similar to Google AdWords, except the ads are more “large corporation” in nature and slightly more intrusive. I say intrusive because the site owner does not get to decide where the ads will appear. If I had my druthers, the top ad would appear below the site header.

Deciding to let these ads run was a difficult choice. I adore a clean aesthetic. At the same time, running a pro-zine costs money and the site content is free free free (going all the way back to issue 1). We LIKE having the content available to anyone who has access. Running WordAds insures that Apex will be able to continue to do so.

However, we’re always open for advertising and sponsorship. When we have a sponsor or advertiser, then we’ll turn off WordAds for the duration of the ad buy. I’d greatly prefer this… after all, enough people drink Pepsi, and not enough buy books! 🙂
