I am honored to be the new editor-in-chief of Apex Magazine. Under my leadership Apex will continue to feature innovative science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Issue 56 (January 2014) will contain original fiction by Ursula Vernon and Gene O’Neill, an essay by Jess Nevins, and art by Emma Rios.
Some of you may know me as a submissions editor for Apex Magazine. I am also co-editor of the Hugo-nominated Chicks Dig Comics and this year’s Queers Dig Time Lords, and editor of the forthcoming Pretty Deadly by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios. My nonfiction and fiction writing have also been published, including “The Ages of Dollhouse” (Whedonistas) and “No Return Address” (Strange Horizons), which was on the 2012 Tiptree Award Long List.
Apex Magazine will continue to publish stories about other worlds, dark secrets, and the things we can’t always see. We will continue to publish essays and poetry that challenge convention.
These works will chip away at the seams of what we think we know to be true. They will make us uncomfortable. They will also make the world wider for everyone. They will make us proud to be human beings.
Lynne Thomas, Jason Sizemore, Michael Thomas, and the rest of the Apex team have entrusted me with a great privilege. I am proud to further their work.
